I wish I lived in Europe. The second generation Focus looks so much better than the American Focus.

Is that second one a Focus convertible?

Automakers need to make more affordable droptops. Gone are the days of the shitbox cavalier or le baron.

The second gen facelift cars look even better to me (like the ST in the first pic). I didn't even realize they made a hardtop convertible, learn something new everyday.

Yup. Ford made a big mistake by not selling the Mk2 over here.

Yes, by Pininfarina as I recall. It was dropped for the current model as have been many other coupé/convertibles, because too heavy and too much CO2 (and not many sales either)

and much to my annoyance they are holding their value so much better than all the other hot hatches of the period bar weirdly the Astra VXR.

the thing that pisses me off about the focus platform is that they have single handedly made every conceivable car body style possible at one time or another but never offer too many at the same time in the same market. the focus has had:

2 door coupe car

4 door sedan

2 door hatch

4 door hatch

4 door wagon

convertible

but never more than 3 in any generation at any given market. give me all the focii!

The post-facelift Mark II ST 3-door is the best looking Focus ever made, so far as I'm concerned. I'd own one, if I could afford the insurance and they weren't so doggedly holding onto their value on the used market.

The Mark I RS is a close second.

With the post-facelift Mark III ST estate in third.

Yup, here it is with the top dropped. I think they're decent to look at, but it's still not my favourite family hatchback-derived convertible. That'd be either the 306 Cabrio:

I must have seen 100 mk IIs when I was in London last week, but only two were STs. I also saw a bunch of these. Has anyone here driven a 206 like this?

I haven't driven a 206 Cabrio, but it's a 206, so I can say with some certainty that it'll be absolutely god-awful, and an affront to the lion badge.

Indeed. If you want a Peugeot drop-top, I'd direct your attention towards one of these two:
